High school writers create original works of fiction, memoirs, personal essays, poetry, and playwriting under the guidance of an accomplished, experienced instructor. The workshop-style format allows students to write and share their work in a fun and supportive atmosphere. The writers discuss their work in terms of technique and craft, including such elements as voice, character, plot, tone, dialogue, and point of view and produce polished pieces that can be submitted for college essays, awards, publication, and the course’s online literary journal, The Purchase Review.
