Black American Drama introduces students to the canon of works by Black American playwrights. This course will take students through significant movements and styles of work, including musicals, comedies and “stage plays”. As a literature review course, students will analyze the text and further contextualize the works based on relevant sociopolitical events and cultural traditions. In addition to written works, this course will also introduce students to historically significant actors, directors and companies creating work in the Black American dramatic canon.
