In this online introductory level course students will be introduced to the techniques, current practice and history surrounding digital photography. Focus will be placed on the exploration of a digital camera and the artistic processes that can be applied to utilize pictorial space, narrative strategies and sequencing.

Assignments will be given to articulate aspects of a photographic image such as: composition, lighting, point of view and use of narrative. Classes will be devoted to the use of a digital single lens reflex camera commonly known as a DSLR camera and lighting techniques to enhance image structure and visual meaning.

Presentations will focus on historical and contemporary photographers to reinforce concepts and to help develop each student’s individual visual literacy.
