COURSE DESCRIPTION & OBJECTIVES

The goal of this studio course is to introduce real world concepts, processes, techniques and technologies widely used in interactive design projects. You will question how people interact with information, objects, and spaces and learn about the essentials of interaction design; design methods and research, user mental models, recognizing user goals, and working with a variety of digital and analog devices.

You will critically engage with various design problems; you are encouraged to draw from your own strengths, visual backgrounds and disciplines. The systematic nature of the assignments are designed to help you develop a working process that leads to a body of visual/technical work, as well as general design sensitivity and vocabulary. Each class will be anchored by a specific conceptual or real-life design project, which will have specific goals and outcomes. For critically engaging that work, and laying a solid foundation for continued study, critique sessions will include discussions about solutions and weaknesses, proposing improvements, extensions, and/or variations in an open learning environment. You will be expected to take risks, and collaborate with their classmates.
