The goal of this course is to help you engage with difficult texts in a way that allows you to use them in producing organized essays of your own with original and informed points of view. Through the use of assignment sequencing, we will look at ideas in the context of what others have said and thus from difference perspectives. We will begin by writing in response to one text and then return to it in subsequent assignments to re-examine it in light of another author and, even, in light of several authors. Through this process, the course approximates the type of reading and writing required of most college-level courses. In order to emphasize that writing is a process, you will be required to write rough drafts and a final draft of most essays. Either a rough or final draft will be due almost every class meeting.
