This course is structured towards the dancer, athlete, and/or mover. We will be discussing body and space planes, physical orientations, the bony skeleton, joints, muscles, ligaments and tendons, and injuries to these joints and muscles. The course is lecture-based with a few in-class workshops and group projects. Hopefully by the end of the course, you’ll be considerable more knowledgeable about your physical body, how it works, and its development.

COURSE GOALS:
-Understand planes of motion, which joints apply these motions, and what muscles initiate the movement
-Be able to identify the location and purpose of the major muscles of the body
-Locate major bones of the body and understand bone development and health as well as the skeleton’s relationship to the muscular system
-Explore injuries to muscles and bones and the process of recovery from these injuries
